I look at life through a lens tinted with cynicism. I am thrifty with money, hence very much depriving myself of material fulfilment most of the time. And I think that paying >RM10 for a cup of coffee or a cone of ice-cream is absurd. Happiness comes from having ample time to stay in bed and read/write. I detest pop trash of the latter day and have turned to alternative rock/rock for solace. And I like creative writing. :)

Ah, the days

One of the very few things I looked forward to watching on our newly subscribed Astro was WWE Smackdown/RAW. It felt more of like, a comeback to the world of wrestling, a past addiction of mine which started when my grandpa was watching Stephanie McMahon slapping Linda McMahon on TV3 on Chinese New Year Day 1. Then he invited his grandkids to join him, and so we did. Since then, many of our balik kampung visits contained late night wrestling watching on my cousin's Astro. Then my brother made us stay up til 12.00am (which was then considered late) to watch Smackdown! every Thursday on national TV. My mom used to bring back confiscated WWF Pay-Per-View VCDs from her school because she knew we were big fans. When WWF came to Malaysia, we were euphoric.

And now, watching WWE again feels like visiting an old friend.

Only to realise that it didn't feel like your old friend anymore.

There were so many new faces, namely some I just watched tonight, some Rikishi impersonator called Umaga, Hackass, Spirit Squad, Maria, Johnny Nitro...semua tak pernah dengar. Gone were the prime days of WWE, when some of its greatest wrestlers and thespians reigned, namely,

the Undertaker, with his patented long stringy hair, infamous choke slams, trench coat, drive-into-the-arena motorbike scenes, silver contacts...he was one of my biggest wrestling idols. My bros and I always jump up with glee whenever he makes a surprise appearance at the arena. Love ya man.

Steve Austin, also known as Stone Cold. I used to squeal whenever he appears in the ring. His signature beer popping scenes after a victory and "What?" speeches were our old time favorites. Signature moves include the Stone Cold stunner. Most remembered for his scene when he takes Booker T to shopping and reappears after being locked up in the refridgerator by Booker with a carton of milk in his hand. Loved that. "And thats the bottom line, cos' Stone Cold says so!"

and of course,

The People's Champion, they called him, also goes by the nicky "The Brahma bull". The Rock reigned the 1990's with Steve Austin, before going into showbiz. Beautiful charisma, beautiful moves, beautiful stunts, beautiful one-liners. Constant WWF world champion. One of the greatest wrestlers to grace the world of WWF/WWE.

There were other stars I loved, Kane, Edge, RVD, Rey Mysterio, Mankind, Triple H, Trish Stratus, Matt & Jeff Hardy, Rikishi, Degeneration X...but these three were the outstanding ones. =D

It must be considered unfeminine for a girl to watch wrestling/boxing, but heck, it's entertainment! Yet another unwritten rule of society. =( I've been watching since I was in std 2, I grew up with them until I realised not many in high school were fond of wrestling. =( The only other girl in high school I know that watches wrestling (or watched) is Miss Sam Low =], a crazy fanatic of John Cena when we first met. I can see why now, hehe.

Sadly those golden days are gone, WWE is barely surviving now. =( Kesiannye.
